Gymkhana. Ludic discovery through Barcelona city
With a Gymkhana format, in groups of 8-10 students, we propose a ludic discovery through Barcelona old downtown, a route through urban and architectural areas that show the process of development of the city and its architecture, the variety of relationships that happen in this complex site called city: the feedback man-city, public space-private space, representation-economy-power,...
Through the route it will be necessary to solve some tests in order to discover significant elements, spatial characteristics of the different chosen foci of interest.
The main objectives of this activity are:
- Thinking about the public urban space: squares, walks, boulevards, streets. How the public urban space conditions different kinds of human interactions.
- Thinking about buildings and their connection with the public urban space. Specific characteristics of each period, social and political context. Representation, centrality, segregation.
- Thinking about the complexity of the city as a direct consequence of the society complexity, the power foci, economy, the need for interchanging.
- Encouraging spatial orientation.
- Encouraging cooperative work in group.
- Encouraging observation, imagination, creativity, discovery and the ability to solve the tests with imaginative own sources.
